Welcome to the Museum of Rope Making

Back - Go back to were you came fromHome

Carlmark's old rope walk in Älvängen, Sweden, was to be demolished in the early 1990s, but fortunately thanks to the skill and hard work of the save the Rope Walk Society the threat was averted.Today the building and machines have been fully restored. The Rope-Walk was designated Industrial Monument of the Year in 1995 and in 1996 a historic building.

An experience for all the senses.
Ropes are always being made whenever the museum is open. Seeing and hearing the old belt-driver machines work, feeling the fibres and yarn, the rope, hawsers other cordage and smelling the tar and natural
fibres are what make the rope walk a unique living museum. The walk is
300 meters long and, besides a living museum also houses a reception
whit a cafe, museum shop and toilets.
All suitable for disabled visitors.
